Alloy SST-304
Alloy SST-304 is an 18/8 stainless steel austenitic alloy. That just means that it is an alloy derived from steel with 18% chromium, 8% nickel and no more than 0.08% carbon.
This combination creates a metal that is highly resistive to corrosion and oxidation. It is also easily formed and welded, while being tough and easily maintained. Items made from SST-304 are not only functional, but can be beautifully designed.
For applications requiring a heavy gauge of over 6mm, there is a version of alloy SST-304, called 304L for the low carbon content. Items that will be exposed to high temperatures are usually made of 304H, which is a version of 304 that has a higher carbon content.
A brief walk through a commercial will reveal a wide variety of items made from SST-304 or one of its variations. Stoves, refrigerators, mixers, coffee urns are just a few of the items that you will see made of this stainless steel alloy.
Breweries, wineries and dairies also use items made from SST-304. In fact, any applications requiring homogenizing and sterilizing will usually be made with SST-304. Storage and transportation needs of these industries, as well as pans, pipes, vats and other types of containers will be made from stainless steel 304.
Because of its ability to resist the corrosive acidic action of meats, vegetables, citrus and other fruits, 304 is the material most often found in areas of food production or processing. Counters, tabletops and appliances, as well as pots, pans, sinks and cooking utensils, steam tables and display cases are all made of alloy 304.
The transportation industry also finds uses for alloy SST-304. Again it is its corrosion resistance that makes it ideal for chemical, dairy, beer and other liquid transport containers
For corrosion resistance, durability, formability and beauty of design, alloy SST-304 is the choice of many manufacturers for many different applications.
