Shoe Manufacturers

Shoe manufacturers, like other manufacturers, have moved to using technology to cut the leather and sew the stitches. There are several machines that have been designed to do the tasks faster and more consistently than the cobbler could ever hope to do. The metal casting industry has be used to produce these machines.

Each machine used in shoe manufacturing has been designed to do a specific function that was once done manually. Tasks that were done by hand such as sewing, creating eyelets and stitching the soles are now done by lockstitch machines, eyeleting machines and outsole stitchers. Skiving machines, deavy-duty sewing machines and staple side lasting machines are all different shoe manufacturing machines.

Each machine, no matter the task it performs, is a compilation of a multitude of small, medium and large metal pieces, many of which are produced by investment casting. Shelmet Precision Castings was instrumental in the shoe industry when it help solve a design problem a machine manufacturing was having with one of their machines.

Our design specialists analyzed the machine and almost immediately identified the design problem that was causing the problem. They then submitted a recommendation for a design change, and then recommended the correct metal casting process to be used. Close tolerances were identified and a determination made for the best alloy to use.

The part so vital to the successful manufacture of shoes was then cast of 6150 spring steel. It now performs as designed by firmly holding each shoe while the glue sets or so that it may be stitched. The successful modification and correction of the original design flaw has brought about a savings of time and money for the shoe manufacturer.

Again a manufacturing industry has benefited from the experts at Shelmet Precision Casting. Shoe manufacturers using this machine will never know the debt they owe Shelmet.
